Attorney at Flaw. Qualified Monday. Fired Friday.

Invented satirical cartoon of Donald Trump stamping Katie Zacharia qualified at a gold Trump Bar Association desk while pointing a reporter toward a hotel cocktail bar.

Updated October 16, 2026: Katie Zacharia has been fired as White House press secretary. Reuters reports that a White House official confirmed she was "let go." The New York Times reports that Tuesday's briefing was her first and last.

Donald Trump found an economical way to verify professional credentials: announce them himself. Then the employee failed to outlast the welcome email. Five days and one briefing. Most office refrigerators give yogurt a longer probationary period.

Welcome to the Trump Bar Association

In our imaginary licensing office, Donald sits behind a gold desk with a stamp the size of a parking meter. Katie arrives with her diploma. A reporter arrives with a question. Donald regards this as an unfair distribution of equipment.

"Which bar admitted you?" the reporter asks. Donald points through an archway at the hotel cocktail lounge. "That one. Tremendous bar." He stamps QUALIFIED across the paperwork and asks whether the reporter would prefer an answer with bottle service.

The reporter explains that professional admission usually produces a record somebody can check. Donald says his announcement is already public. How much more public would they like it? He can put it on a bigger screen. Katie holds up her diploma. The reporter says nobody is disputing the diploma. Donald requests a frame large enough to cover the question.

He has designed an efficient application form. The section marked "Licensing jurisdiction" has been replaced with "Said nice things about Donald." The box for a registration number now asks how often. References are optional, provided one of them is Donald.

The gold stamp has an expiration date

In the next scene at our entirely imaginary Trump Bar Association, Katie returns to the gold desk carrying the cardboard box Human Resources gives you when your career has become a desk-clearing exercise. Donald is still stamping QUALIFIED. An aide whispers in his ear. He flips the stamp over. It now says WE WISH HER WELL.

The reporter asks how the woman Donald personally certified became unsuitable before the office plant needed water. Donald says the hiring process was perfect. The problem was the employee they hired. He requests a plaque recognizing his excellent judgment in both decisions.

Katie asks whether the framed announcement counts as a reference. Donald says it was a tremendous announcement when it came out, but he has heard troubling things about it since. The aide removes the frame. There is a smaller frame underneath announcing that Donald barely knew the frame.

Our fictional Church of Perpetual Applause sends its accreditation team to certify the departure. They stamp the empty chair EXCELLENT CHOICE. The reporter asks whether this was the same team that certified the appointment. They turn the chair around and stamp her question UNFRIENDLY.

At the hotel lounge, Katie tries the room key Donald issued with her credentials. The light turns red. The bartender explains that the Trump Bar Association has a strict admissions policy: everybody is qualified until the bill arrives. What the record actually shows

Pepperdine's announcement confirms Zacharia earned her JD in 2011. Her law degree is real. A degree and admission to practice are separate credentials.

Popular Information's October 13 investigation reported no evidence of admission in any U.S. state or Washington, D.C. It also documented her public descriptions of herself as a lawyer. When it asked the White House for evidence, the response pointed to Trump's announcement calling her an attorney.

The bar-exam question now has an answer. In her October 15 Hannity interview, Zacharia acknowledged that she did not pass and had not retaken the exam, ABC News reports. She has defended using the term lawyer while denying that she presented herself as a practicing attorney.

On October 16, NPR reported that a White House official described her departure as "transitioning out." She started Monday, October 12, and was out Friday, October 16. The firing followed the credential controversy; the reporting does not establish a State Bar disciplinary finding.

On October 14, Campaign for Accountability filed a complaint asking California's State Bar to investigate her representations and work. A complaint requests an investigation. It is not a ruling that she broke the law. The licensing office, gold stamps, hotel-bar exchanges, and dialogue above are invented satire.

Three Key Takeaways

  • Zacharia is out as press secretary after starting Monday and leaving Friday, according to October 16 reporting.
  • She acknowledged on October 15 that she did not pass the bar exam. Her Pepperdine JD is real.
  • A watchdog complaint is a request for investigation, not a finding of wrongdoing. Our Trump Bar Association is fictional.
